Science to Protect Water-Dependent Ecosystems

My professional experience in surface-water and groundwater hydrology includes 25 years in private consulting, federal government, and academia. I partner extensively with biologists on highly collaborative, multidisciplinary projects that develop practical science for successful conservation. Understanding how reservoir operation, surface water and groundwater withdrawals, and climate impacts Western U.S. streamflow is essential to preserving and restoring aquatic habitats.

Key services and skills include:

  • Partnership development and collaboration with federal and state government agencies, NGOs, private industry, private landowners, academia, and other water management professionals to complete surface water and groundwater resource studies and providing stakeholders with unbiased, scientifically rigorous information to inform water resource decision-making

  • Developing hydrologic science needed to inform successful management of water resources for people and environments often hosting species of federal and state conservation interest

  • Design and implementation of complex surface water and groundwater monitoring networks and interpretation of data

  • Evaluating how environmental flows, needed to maintain aquatic habitats for species of conservation interest, may affect water resources using water availability models

  • Sampling of wells, springs, and streams for water-quality analyses as part of applied scientific studies and assuring compliance with public water-quality regulations

  • Evaluating current and future threats to hydrologic resources and prioritizing actions within a landscape-scale geographic context using GIS

  • Project management in designing, funding / proposal development / grant writing, and leading interdisciplinary cross-functional teams to execute complex, multi-year projects, including motivating, setting objectives, and guiding performance towards deliverables under contract deadlines and within budget

  • Effective communicator with strong track record of writing reports, peer-reviewed scientific publications, and public-facing text; presenting to both lay‑people and discipline experts

  • Presenter in multi-stakeholder public forums conveying project results and impact in Spanish and English
