Science for water and ecosystem decision making
Who we are
Our expertise focuses on groundwater and surface-water interactions, hydrologic characterization and threat assessment, and evaluating impacts of surface-water and groundwater development on river basins and streams, springs, and groundwater-dependent ecosystems—and conveying scientific results to diverse stakeholders to inform water resource and ecosystem conservation decision-making.
What we do
We synthesize hydrologic and other rigorous scientific information to develop and implement surface water and groundwater resource management strategies that protect aquatic and water-dependent terrestrial ecosystems and maintain supplies for economically important agricultural, urban, and recreational uses.

“Any river is really the summation of the whole valley. To think of it as nothing but water is to ignore the greater part.”
— Hal Borland, This Hill, This Valley
